School Readiness

Our mission is to support the Ellington Community by identifying resources, facilitating collaboration and working with community partners to support families with young children. The purpose of the Ellington School Readiness Council is to ensure our youngest learners will receive high quality early learning experiences appropriate to their needs, thereby ensuring their readiness to enter kindergarten.

Volunteers needed!

The Ellington School Readiness Council is seeking new members!

The School Readiness Preschool Program provides affordable, high-quality early care and education services in high-need communities that help young children prepare for kindergarten.

Ellington receives funding for approximately 24 children to attend preschool at Windermere Elementary and Crystal Lake School. The schools must meet and maintain high quality standards, including NAEYC Accreditation.

Communities receiving School Readiness Grant funds have a School Readiness Council (SRC) that is responsible for making recommendations about the school readiness grant program.  We are looking for current, past or future parents to serve on the Council.

The Council meets quarterly, and meeting times for 2023 will be determined based on the availability of Council members.  Meeting topics include updates on collaborations, programs and activities offered to families of young children, how funded programs are meeting quality standards, and initiatives important to families.  The Council recommends and approves funded activities.

The standards are:

  • Relationships
  • Curriculum
  • Teaching
  • Assessment of Child Progress
  • Health
  • Staff Competencies, Preparation, and Support
  • Families
  • Community Relationships
  • Physical Environment
  • Leadership and Management
