What is it?
The Teen Staff Program allows high schoolers the opportunity to work with school-aged children beginning their freshman year. staff are also given opportunities to interact with the public at community events that EYS attends.
What do they do?
Our teen staff plan and implement most evening programs at EYS. These programs often include crafts, food, scavenger hunts, mindful movement, art, and social emotional learning.
How are they trained?
Twice yearly, our teen leaders attend staff training sessions that provide them with basic class management skills and first aid care that align with youth services philosophy. these staff trainings also include practical knowledge on how to communicate with co-workers and supervisors, as well as general etiquette in an office setting. during programming, eys full-time staff are nearby to assist and provide feedback on teaching strategies, attention grabbers, and more situation-specific class management.
Why is our teen staff program important?
Oftentimes EYS serves as the first employer to our teen staff. with this in mind, eys strives to encourage and mentor our teen staff to become good teachers, helpful co-workers and mindful community members. these teens earn quality work experience with tasks that positively impact their own community in a meaningful way.
